Dental Society President & Staff President Message Hello and welcome! My name is Priya Malhotra, a year 4 dental student, and I am your Dental Society President. Along with my committee, we're here to ensure you get the most out of your life as a student at Kings College London Dental Institute. A bit about us: Dental Society (or DentSoc) is a student run society, that is involved in many aspects of your student life. Academically, we are here to put your problems forward and try and get them sorted asap. Socially, we organise events and encourage integration between different year groups at dental school, and with other dental schools. After last years big successes, we hope to make 2008-2009 the biggest year in DentSoc history, and we need your support! Yes, you’ve heard exams are tough and there is a lot of work involved, but make sure you have fun while you can! And remember final exams are all the way in May! We run many events from out famous DentSoc parties to our hugely popular annual 5-a-side football tournament. As well these events, we also hold evening lectures to broaden your knowledge and views on various aspects of the dental world. Twice a year, we hold a trade fair, where we are hosts to many dentally and non dentally related companies (this where you get the freebies!). We also represent in National and European events, and we encourage all of you to get involved! It’s a great chance to mingle with dentists from other schools. Recently, we’ve been increasing links with the Dental School at Queen Marys University and hope to hold some events with them in the future…we have to show them which school is the best!!! This year also bring a revamp of the BUDS scheme, which helps dental students get discounts for a wide range of things. Not only are we here to help you have fun, but also we are here to help, so any problems you have, come to us. You can drop by the Office, which is on Floor 18 of Guys Hospital, or send us an email at dental-society@kcl.ac.uk. Hope to see you around! Priya
Staff Presidents Message Welcome to the Dental Society at King’s College London This year I have the honour of being your Staff President. As a dental student I was also heavily involved with the dental society and have seen it develop over the years into the wonderful organisation that it is. The society is predominantly run by students and addresses both the academic and social aspects of student life. I believe that extra-curricular social activities play a vital role in the interaction between members of our profession and therefore I strongly encourage every student and staff within the Institute to actively participate in events that the society offers. This message extends to students of all years of the programme as well as postgraduates students, BSc students, staff and other associated healthcare professionals. The society adopts an open door policy and we pride ourselves on being easily approachable. Anyone is most welcome to contact us or visit us and we will endeavour to address your needs. I look forward to sharing with you the exciting year we have ahead of us.
Dr Samy Darwish
